Liebe Leserinnen und Leser,

‍Klang ist niemals nur Klang. Er organisiert Aufmerksamkeit, Nähe, Öffentlichkeit und Ausschluss. Positionen schafft seit Jahrzehnten einen Raum, in dem diese Zusammenhänge verhandelt werden – mit ästhetischer Neugier, kritischer Aufmerksamkeit und dem Anspruch, aktuelle Musiken und Klangkunst nicht nur zu dokumentieren, sondern aktiv mitzugestalten. Es ist mir daher eine große Freude, mich Ihnen und Euch heute als neuer Redakteur vorzustellen und künftig an dieser Geschichte mitzuschreiben.

Als Künstler, Kurator, Dramaturg und forschender Autor bewege ich mich in Zwischenräumen: zwischen Disziplinen und Genres, zwischen Institutionen und ihren Rändern, im Spannungsfeld von ästhetischer Praxis und politischer Aktion. Genau dort liegt mein Interesse – wo Klang, Bild, Text und Haltung aufeinandertreffen, sich reiben, verhandeln und neu formieren. Das Politische in der Kunst verstehe ich dabei als gelebte Praxis. Sie geschieht im Alltag ebenso wie im Konzertsaal, in der leisen Geste wie im lautstarken Protest. Mich leiten Fragen nach der Verteilung von Aufmerksamkeit: Wer darf präsent sein, wer wird gehört – und wer bleibt überhört oder wird zum Schweigen gebracht?

‍Positionen verstehe ich als Resonanzraum, den ich kollektiv weiterdenken möchte: als Seismograph einer Gegenwart, in der technologische Verschiebungen, ästhetische Prozesse und politische Verhältnisse ineinandergreifen. Ich möchte Formen aufnehmen, die sich noch suchen, Praktiken aufspüren, die erst entstehen, und Dringlichkeiten der Gegenwart hörbar werden lassen.

»Ich setzte den Fuß in die Luft, und sie trug.« Mit Hilde Domins Zeilen lade ich Sie und Euch ein, den Schritt ins Ungewisse mitzugehen – mit Neugier auf das, was als Nächstes drängt. Gerade in unserer komplexen Gegenwart schafft Kunst Räume für Begegnung und Bewegung. Ich freue mich auf den Dialog, auf Ihre und Eure Impulse, Anregungen und Kritik – und auf alles, was sich in den kommenden Ausgaben öffnen wird.

Dear Readers,

Sound is never merely sound. It shapes attention, intimacy, public space, and exclusion. For decades, Positionen has created a space where these connections are explored – with aesthetic curiosity, critical attention, and a mission not only to document contemporary musics and sound cultures but also to actively help shape it. It is therefore a great pleasure for me to introduce myself to you as the new editor and to help write this story moving forward.

As an artist, curator, researcher, and writer, I navigate the spaces in between: between disciplines and genres, between institutions and their peripheries, at the intersection of aesthetic practice and political action. That is precisely where my interest lies – where sound, image, text, and political positioning converge, clash, negotiate, and take new shape. I understand the political in art as lived practice. It occurs in everyday life just as much as in the concert hall and in public space, in a gentle gestures just as much as in resounding protests. I am guided by questions about the distribution of attention: Who is allowed to be present, who is heard – and who is overlooked or silenced?‍

Positionen documents aesthetic margins and actively interrogates them – their social conditions, their political implications, their collective imaginaries. I view the magazine as a resonant space that I hope to explore collectively: as a seismograph of a present in which technological shifts, aesthetic processes, and political conditions intertwine. I want to invite forms that are still finding their way, trace practices that are just emerging, and make the urgent concerns of the present moment audible.

“I set my foot in the air, and it carried me.” With these lines by Hilde Domin, I invite you to take a step into the unknown – with curiosity about what lies ahead. Especially in our complex and trying times, art has the ability to create spaces for encounter and movement. I look forward to our dialogue, to your ideas, suggestions, and critiques – and to everything that will unfold in the coming issues.
